Shatner going where no man has gone before

The £12,500 paid for William Shatner’s kidney stone in January is now being put to good use by the Habitat for Humanity Charity.

Online gaming site Goldenpalace.com purchased the body part and all proceeds made from the rather bizarre sale went to the charity who provide housing for those in need.

The former Star Trek star who was captain of the starship enterprise initially turned down a bid of £7,500 saying he knew the stone was worth more.

He said “When I was contacted about selling my kidney stone to GoldenPalace.com for an original price of $15,000 I turned it down knowing that my tunics from Star Trek have commanded more than $100,000. I offered the stone, stint and string for $25,000 and informed them that 100% of the proceeds would go to benefit Habitat for Humanity and I retain visitation rights”.

“We are very pleased to own this piece of TV history and to be able to help a worthy charity like Habitat for Humanity,” said GoldenPalace.com CEO Richard Rowe. “We’re excited to have a piece of him that can’t be replicated, and we intend to take it on tour with our other unusual items. We are confident that this will be our most enterprising advertising campaign to date with the Captain on board.”

Shatner said he delighted to aid the charity even if the process was a little on the unusual side. "This takes organ donors to a new height, to a new low, maybe. How much is a piece of me worth?" asked the 76 year old Canadian star.
Goldenpalace.com is noted for its collection of oddities, which includes a partially eaten cheese sandwich thought to contain the image of the Virgin Mary.
Shatner said the idea of selling the stone came up after "Boston Legal" raised $20,000 for Habitat for Humanity. With the money for the stone, Shatner said there is about enough funding to build half a house.
