Texas Hold'em Shoot Out
By Graham Clifford
Published on 8 December 2006

This game was invented for the gambler who wants to mix his winnings with having a good time. Fast and furious or slow and pedestrian the player chooses the pace of the game.

The opponents in Texas Hold em shoot out are two ‘passive, simple-minded’ virtual players i.e. don’t expect too many Royal Flushes from them.

Suitable for the novice as well as the more experienced card player the object of the game is to get the best five card hand you can from your two hole cards as well as five community cards which are dealt face up on  the table.

If you believe your hand is strong enough to defeat your two virtual opponents then you get the pot. If one or both of the players have a similar hand in value then the pot is split accordingly but it will always be 100% up for grabs as no casino commission charge is present.

One specific feature of this game which will excite all players is that by choosing an ‘All in bet’ you can increase your wager by 8 times. With a Royal or straight Flush in your hand this would come as music to your ears!

Texas Hold em shoot out is easy to get to grips with and gives you all the excitement of normal poker while also providing competition other than the house.

Texas Hold em Shoot-out Basic Strategy

The game begins with a “pre-flop” round, where a player is dealt two cards and has to decide whether to FOLD, CALL, RAISE or go ALL IN.

*Always fold an unsuited 3-2 with a standard-sized pot. With a large pot, you should never fold.

CALLING, RAISING, or going ALL IN will allow the player to stay in the game until the end with no additional required bets. The bot that raised will match any raise the player makes. The other bot, if still in the game, will fold.

If the player chooses to go ALL IN, the remaining bot will expose its cards and all five community cards will be dealt face up. Best final hand wins. Tied hands split the pot.

If the player chooses to FOLD, she/he is consequently forfeiting the bet made and any chance to win on that hand. However this can be the only option to avoid having to invest any more money in an unpromising hand.

If the player CALLS or RAISES, the first three community cards (the flop) are dealt face-up and a round of optional betting starts.

At this point, before the fourth community card (the turn) is dealt, player’s choices are:

CHECK - Make no bet.
BET - Bet an additional 1x your original Blind bet.

If the player checks, the bot will do so as well. If the player makes a bet, the bot will call, but will not raise.

The fourth community card (the turn) is dealt, face-up and another round of optional betting starts.

The fifth and final community card (the river) is dealt, face-up. Unlike standard Texas Hold’em, there is no betting round after the river. The remaining bot reveals its hand. Best final hand wins the pot. Tied hands split the pot.
