Ever heard of the monogamous online gambler? Me neither. New studies have shown that those who try their luck on online gaming are ‘promiscuous’ searching many online sites to find the best games and the best bargains.

Warwick Bartlett, chief executive of Global Betting and Gambling Consultants, said: "Online gamblers are quite promiscuous. They go from one site to another, they look for value. The internet market is all about price and value."

He added: "There are some games that people are familiar with like poker, roulette and blackjack and they'll always play those games. But with other games, the customer gets tired of them and wants a new challenge. Therefore, the operators do have to come up with new ideas, to refresh their sites and keep their customers interested."

For the future, Mr. Bartlett said that new technological advances could bring innovations to the remote gaming industry.

"Mobile phone technology is improving all the while so you'll be able to get services on the move. There's convergence taking place between the laptop and the mobile phone as well, and Vodafone has just introduced new mobile broadband laptops," he said.

"You've also got broadband becoming more available which means more video streaming, so you can watch live horse racing in real time and dog racing - instead of being lumpy and slow. It will look like it does on the television. There are a lot of improvements for the industry to look forward to," he added.

According to statistics from the Gambling Commission, 8.7 per cent of adults participated at least once in remote gambling last year, up from 7.4 per cent the year before.

So it seems loyalty in the online gaming world is non existent. Let’s hope online gaming doesn’t translate to real life relationships then!
