A new London based online casino site has decided to target Irish punters by using a former Gaelic football star to promote their site.
Gaelic football is the most popular sport in Ireland with almost every parish on both the north and south of the border having teams at all levels.
Croke Park in Dublin is the Gaelic Athletic Association’s (GAA) national headquarters.
The stadium can hold 82,000 spectators and is being used by the national soccer
and rugby associations in 2007 while Lansdowne road is being redeveloped.
Now in a bold move, Plumgaming.com have recruited former Kerry star Seamus Moynihan in a bid to attract fans of Gaelic football.
Moynihan, who retired last year, is considered to be one of the greatest players ever to play the game having won the All Ireland Championship with his county on four separate occasions and the national icon was voted onto the esteemed All star team three times.
It’s the first time that a player from the amateur association has stepped into the gambling arena and the move is being greeted with bemusement in Ireland.
Moynihan is widely regarded as one of the most inspirational footballers of his era. Off the field of play, his 'down-to-earth' demeanor has made him a firm favourite with journalists, fans and his football contemporaries.
In the last 15 years of top-level participation, no GAA footballer has played more games, has lined out for a wider variety of teams or has won as many trophies and accolades as Seamus Moynihan.
While online gaming has not enjoyed the same level of success in Ireland as it has in Britain Plumgaming.com are hoping that by using Moynihan as promoter of their games it will entice GAA supporters to log onto their site.
In the past twelve months we’ve seen sites designed for members of the homosexual community in the UK as well as sites which are directed at a female audience. This is the first time that an online gaming provider has tried to entice a particular ethnic group to its games in this part of the world.
