OJ Simpson in Casino heist
By Graham Clifford
Published on 20 September 2007

It’s almost 12 years since OJ Simpson was found not guilty of double murder but now the  former American football star and actor is back in serious trouble with the law.

The troubled public figure was arrested on multiple charges including armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon at the Palace Station Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday.

The former American football player is accused of the alleged theft of items of sports memorabilia, which he claims is rightfully his.

This latest arrest is his second major piece of sensation following his acquittal of the murder of his ex-wife.

Simpson is now charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon, as well as a kidnapping charge according to the Las Vegas police.

If found guilty, the 60-year-old could potentially spend the rest of his life in jail.

Simpson was arrested at the Palms Hotel after being accused of participating in an armed raid on a casino hotel room, during which sports memorabilia was taken from two dealers.

Alleged victim Alfred Beardsley said that the men pretended to be customers, pulled out guns and demanded the items.

Simpson is denying the use of guns, telling the Los Angeles Times that he and some "golfing buddies" had simply gone to the casino to reclaim sports souvenirs that belonged to him.

“I just wanted to get my stuff back," Simpson told CNN’c Ted Rowlands.

Simpson, 60, said he entered the room with a group of friends, one of whom was posing as a potential buyer. The friends helped him carry items out.

But, he said, no guns were involved, and the incident was not a robbery.
