Manchester Utd stars splash out at casino
To celebrate retaining the Premiership title, several Manchester Utd players had a night out at Manchester’s plush 234 casino. Although, upon entering the casino, it seems the players didn’t look in the party mood as they were perhaps drained from a long hard season.
It took some time before the players got into the spirit, after quaffing champagne in the casino’s VIP area they stood up in their chairs and began chanting victory songs. Their wives joined in and showed off their husbands’ championship medals.
Not all of the team attended the casino, boss Alex Ferguson didn’t make an appearance and PFA Player of The Year Christiano Ronaldo, together with his fellow countryman Nani, went to the exclusive Circle Club instead.
Players such as Rio Ferdinand, Carlos Tevez and Wes Brown gambled huge sums of money on the casino games. As the players are on huge salaries they can afford to splash out in these swanky casinos. In total the champions gambled in excess of £100,000.
The players stayed at the Lowry Hotel after their night out to shake off their hangovers. The next morning Christiano Ronaldo left the hotel with a two-fingered salute to photographers.
The Manchester Utd players like a gamble. The club faces an FA investigation into allegations that striker Louis Saha gambled on the France versus Scotland matches, with Alex Ferguson and fellow French players Mikel Silvestre and Patrice Evra. It is a scandal because Louis Saha played in the Scotland-France match at Hampden Park and players are banned from gambling on matches they are involved in.
Manchester Utd have now won ten Premiership titles since the Premiership started in the 1992-1993 season. It’s a great personal achievement for Alex Ferguson who has managed them to all of their titles.
Manchester Utd’s season is far from over, with their biggest game coming up next week in the Champions League final against Chelsea in Moscow. Chelsea will be looking for revenge after missing out on the Premiership title to United for the second year running. Its worth remembering Chelsea then went on to defeat Manchester Utd in last year’s FA Cup final to gain revenge for losing the Premiership to the Northern club.
