As the profile on gambling increases in the UK London has been confirmed as the destination for a European version of the World Series of Poker, scheduled to take place later this year.
Holding the event in London further underlines the international attitude towards the UK as a country where gambling is promoted fairly and advertised sensibly.
The event scheduled for September is to be held over ten days at casinos operated by London Clubs International and will follow the conclusion of the 39th annual Las Vegas World Poker series.
The London event will differ to the Las Vegas series significantly.
While the Las Vegas series is weighted heavily towards Texas Hold'em, the European event will principally feature horse and pot-limit Omaha, in addition to the No-Limit Hold'em main event.
World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said "The World Series of Poker Europe will have a unique identity, style and flair, but will remain true to the 38-year tradition and heritage.
"This new tournament has been designed with European players in mind, but registrants from every country are welcome."
Its expected that there will be a diverse spread of entrants from across Europe for the event.
While the World Series of Poker say they are excited about this year’s tournament they were reluctant to say if this would become an annual event for the city of London.
