In the increasingly competitive industry of gaming finding something unique and different can be difficult.
Punters nowadays are spoilt for choice in many parts of Britain for example. They can choose to play poker in glitzy surroundings or in more down to earth locations with good food.
American companies are looking at the UK as an area where they can grow their business and every proposal put forward to them is seriously considered.
That’s why the slightly off the wall idea to turn the simply amazing Gwrych Castle at Abergele in Wales into a casino, hotel and leisure complex is attracting a lot of attention on the other side of the Atlantic.
Bought for just £750,000 in 1999 by the Californian based business man, Nick Tavaglione, the Victorian Castle located in North Wales possesses a haunting quality which would provide an amazing atmosphere to the proposed venue.
However locals say the Castle should not be used for such commercial ventures and insist it must be regenerated to its former glory for the good of the community.
Mark Baker, a teenager who has been leading the campaign to restore Gwrych Castle said recently “We have heard it all before, and nothing has ever happened.”
The Castle was built in 1819 and has over the centuries had a host of different owners.
American Tavaglione promised to begin work on his ambitious plans soon after purchasing the castle but its believed legal problems prevented the work from going ahead. Now though he has publicly repeated his ambitions.
The Castle’s Preservation site describes the state of disrepair the castle has fallen into in recent years when it states “In 1996 Prince Valiant was filmed at the Castle staring Edward Fox and Joanna Lumley. Since then, the weather, heartless vandals and
New-age travelers have ravaged the building to the point of near dereliction.”
