Scott Clements has won the Cdn$ 10,000 buy-in World Poker Tour North American Championship at Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario. For his triumph he picked up a winning prize of Cdn$ 1,387,224, a WPT bracelet, a WPT chip set and a place at the WPT World Championship next April.
The former Mortgage Broker from Mount Vernon, Washington, USA has added to his WPT Canadian Open win last year as well as the bracelets he has won at each of the last World Series of Poker events.
The final table featured a mixture of top professionals as well as two young Internet players. The two youngsters were 19 year olds Jeff Garza and Kofi Farkye. They joined top professionals Jonathan Little, David Cloutier and Barry Greenstein together with Scott Clements in the final table action.
However, the two young Internet players found they couldn’t compete with the other more experienced players and were the first to be eliminated from the final table. Jeff Garza was the first to go, losing out to Clements. Garza picked up Cdn$ 170,216 for his sixth place finish. Soon afterwards Clements also eliminated Kofi Farkye, whose fifth place earned him Cdn$ 218,849. The two youngsters should however take heart from giving good performances to reach the final table and by picking up their first big tournament winnings.
The biggest name left, Barry Greenstein, was next to leave the field after being eliminated by Cloutier. For finishing fourth, Greenstein received Cdn$ 291,798. After this, play slowed down dramatically and it took nearly 140 hands of play and over five hours before the next player was eliminated. This time it was David Cloutier who was eliminated by Jonathan Little. Cloutier’s third place earned him Cdn$ 355,021.
Therefore the heads up action was between Scott Clements and Jonathan Little and going into this face-off, Clements had almost double the amount of chips of Little. After the long drawn out tension of the three-way action, the title was decided in less than 15 hands. Little earned Cdn$ 680,862 for his runner-up prize as Clements was crowned WPT North American Champion 2007.
The final table was decided in 271 hands which is a new WPT record.
