It seems national and local legislators across the world are now realising the huge potential benefits that introducing Casinos would have on their finances not to mention on line gambling.
In Boston, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said yesterday that the state needs to seriously consider casinos or slot parlours to balance the state budget.
While there is considerable opposition to such a move in this mainly conservative city it’s believed Governor Patrick’s comments could open the way for at least some exploratory talks into the issue.
Meanwhile the issue of gambling in Texas came to fore once again this week. At present Texans are enticed to casinos in neighbouring Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico as their introduction has been blocked in the lone star state for decades.
Battle lines already are being drawn in the 2007 Legislature as gambling interests make a renewed push for casinos. However opposition groups are said to continue to have a strong hand.
And in the South American state of Guyana the issue of introducing gambling rumbles on as the sparsely populated state tries to get its head around the concept.
The Parliamentary debate was suspended late Friday night after a record thirty Members of Parliament indicated their intention to speak on the topic, however only six had spoken by then.
Guyana's major religions have been at the forefront of several groups and individuals who oppose the move.
The issue has divided the country but a passing of a bill allowing casinos to be introduced seems now the most likely outcome.
