There was widespread pandemonium at a Las Vegas Casino on Monday after a bomb exploded killing one man.
A backpack exploded in the early hours of the morning in a parking garage attached to the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas creating a widespread security alert across the city.
The explosion killed the man who had picked up the backpack and injured one, the Nevada authorities said. Shortly after 4 a.m. a man picked up the backpack which he had left atop of his car on the second floor of the parking lot of the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, when it exploded, according to the investigators at the scene.
There is no visible damage to the structure on the outside, the inside of the casino parking lot has been blocked off by the police. It is being speculated that this is most likely a homicide, due to the limited radius of the explosion.
Luxor casino is famous with it's pyramid shape and is located on the Las Vegas Strip and it is owned by the MGM Mirage . The Luxor Hotel and Casino opened in 1993 with additional twin 22-story towers completed in 1998. Luxor has 4,408 guest rooms including 447 suites, and 120,000 square feet of casino area.
Early speculation that the bomb could have been used in some kind of terrorist attack against the casino has proved to be unfounded.
Meanwhile in the Californian town of Ukiah a casino has re-opened its doors following a bomb threat.
The Shodaki Casino shut down last Thursday after it received a call from a man threatening to set off an explosive device if he did not receive payment.
Security is being stepped up at certain Casinos after the latest events but security experts do not believe Casinos are now being targeted by independent terrorist groups.
