Warwickshire’s wacky poker session for charity

Christmas may be an expensive time for everyone but shrewd poker players in the midlands will be keeping a few extra pounds safe until the 29th of next month for a 24 hour poker Texas Hold’ Em tournament. The marathon session will take place in Warwickshire to raise money for charity.
Fred Hepburn, from Enterprise Inns is hosting the tournament which will raise money for the Myton House Hospice.
The Hospice based in Coventry is in the middle of a campaign to raise £5 million to build and equip a brand new and improved facility for patients.
The new hospice will be run and managed by Myton Hospice who have been serving the people of Coventry and Warwickshire for over 20 years. The hospice will provide a number of facilities but will mainly comprise of a 20-bed in-patient unit and a day hospice for up to 15 patients a day. Although the hospice will be located in Coventry, it will benefit all of the people of Coventry and Warwickshire by easing the pressure on the over-stretched facilities that already exist at Myton in Warwick.
Publican Hepburn said "I haven't got a 24-hour licence so no alcohol will be served and there will be no spectators allowed between midnight and 10:00 GMT."
"But local restaurants will be supplying food through the night - you can't play poker on an empty stomach," he added.
Taking place at the Hod Carrier near Leamington Spa, the tournament will be split in to two 12-hour sessions, beginning at 14:00 GMT on Saturday December 29th.
Mr Hepburn has already raised £1,500 from the event through sponsorship.
The card playing is expected to get under way at 2pm on Saturday 29th December and will continue until 2pm the following day.
