As World snooker Champion Ronnie O’ Sullivan polishes the latest addition to his trophy collection we’re left to reflect on yet another dramatic two weeks of action from the Crucible.
Once again the quotes were flying and one in particular from the 2005 World Champion Shaun Murphy stands out.
Murphy was furious with the condition of the snooker table for his game against the eventual beaten finalist Ali Carter and said “We have a gambling sponsor, why don't we take the championship to a casino and have a real game of chance?"
Perhaps the most hilarious comments though came from Neil Robertson. Speaking after his 13-7 loss to Stephen Maguire the Chelsea FC fanatic said “I left my shoes in Cambridge and didn't realise until half an hour beforehand. I had to buy some new ones and they weren't very comfortable. Also, I was watching the Chelsea v Manchester United game and it was 1-1 with 15 minutes left. I went from being very calm to heading every ball. I completely lost my focus and was caught off guard."
Bookmakers were delighted with O’ Sullivan’s win most offering odds of 10/3 on the Essex man from the start.
A number of punters thought all their dreams have come through when Ali Carter made it to the final but sadly for the 40/1 shot he just didn’t have enough quality in stock to challenge the Rocket.
After his 147 break and subsequent cheque earlier in the competition Carter chipped in with a jovial quote of his own though saying “I'm going to buy a Ford Focus convertible, I've been dying to get one!"
