Sometimes you need to know when to fold ‘em.
In moderation gambling games such as poker are both enjoyable and testing. However some people just don’t know when to stop.
While there are millions of people around the world who like a game of Poker, the case of a Grandville mother of three has surprised even the hardest of Poker players in the US.
Diem Thi Tan has been fined $450 after allegedly leaving her children in her car in a parking lot while she competed in a charity Poker event. In addition to the $450 fine the mother of three has been ‘advised’ to take parenting classes as one of the conditions of the court ruling.
It seems that police patrolling a car lot at 1am in the morning spotted three children – aged 5, 10 and 15 – asleep on the back seat of Diem Thi Tan’s car.
They allege that the children had been in the car themselves for around three hours while their mother was playing the tables.
The length of time the children spent alone in the car could not be proved but it was accepted that they had been left unattended for a considerable amount of time.
Police found their mother inside the bar playing poker.
Captain Brad Schutter would not say if police believe that the mother was drinking. She had been in the bar for a "significant period of time."
Police contacted the children's father, who picked them up from the parking lot. Police would not disclose the relationship of the parents. Police referred the complaint to protective-services workers.
"The most important thing is, the children are safe," Schutter said.
Last year a Florida man was charged with child neglect after he allegedly left his two small sons in a parked car while he played several hands of poker.
Terrence Bowman Davis, 36, left his 3-year-old and 7-year-old sons in his car while he ducked inside the poker room at St. Johns Greyhound Park to play a few hands of Texas Hold Em.
