RBS Six Nations Odds
Published on 30 January 2009
The RBS SIX Nations Rugby Union Championship starts again next weekend, with last year’s Grand Slam winners Wales being the favourites with bookmakers to win another championship.
You will currently get odds of 12/5* with Betdaq on the Welsh taking the Six Nations Championship for the third time in five years. Betdaq also have the best odds on Wales achieving back to back Grand Slams with a price of 32/5* on the Welsh winning all their games in this year’s competition. If Wales win the Grand Slam again they will be the first team since France in 1997/98 to win it two years in a row. To win the Triple Crown, Wales are 12/5* again with Betdaq.
The French who have a great record in the Six Nations are the second favourites to finish on top of the Six Nations table. At the moment Betfair, have them at a price of 33/10* to regain the championship they won on points difference in 2007. They are a 21/2* shot to take the Grand Slam also with Betfair.
The third favourites to win the Six Nations are Ireland with odds of 18/5* with Betfair. The Irish haven’t won a Grand Slam since the 1980s and you will get the best odds on them achieving this with Bet365, Betfair and Betdaq at 10/1*. Ireland are the second most fancied team to lift the Triple Crown with a price of 11/2* with Bet365. To finish bottom of the table and win the wooden spoon Ireland are 20/1* with Victor Chandler.
England aren’t really fancied this year despite reaching the World Cup final and running Wales close to the Six Nations Championship last year. Betfair are offering odds of 19/5* on England taking the title. On England winning the Grand Slam, 11/1* is the price offered by Betfair and Betdaq. England’s odds on winning the Triple Crown are 31/5* with Betfair and to win the wooden spoon, England are 20/1* with Victor Chandler.
Scotland haven’t had such a good rugby union team in recent years and the bookmakers are again seeing them as very much an outside bet to win the Six Nations. You will get odds of 16/1* with a number of bookmakers such as Boylesports, Betfred and Betfair on the Scots winning the championship. To take the Grand Slam, they are 80/1* with Boylesports and 10/1* underdogs to win the Triple Crown with Bet365, Coral and Ladbrokes. To finish bottom, Scotland are second favourites at 10/3* with Paddy Power.
Italy are still seen as the weakest nation in the competition but did well to finish in fifth place two years ago winning two matches in the process. However, Italy are again strong favourites to finish bottom and take another wooden spoon with odds of 4/7* with Bet365, Bluesquare, Sky Bet and 888Sport. For Italy to really upset the form book and win the Six Nations, you will get odds of 100/1* with four bookmakers including Sky Bet. To win the Grand Slam Boylesports are offering odds of 1,000/1* which reflects the likelihood of that happening.
You can also place a bet on their being no Grand Slam winner. The best odds on this happening are 8/13* with Coral and William Hill. On there being no Triple Crown winner this year, you will get the best odds of 2/1* with Totesport.
*Odds are correct as of time of writing.
