Published on 1 December 2008
The 2008 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Grand Final has just taken place at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London. After 9 legs of competition, the Grand Final featured some fine players competing in 8 poker competitions including the No Limit Hold’em Main Event being played at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino. It was Paul ‘BadPab’ Foltyn who was crowned GUKPT Grand Final Main Event Champion for 2008.
His reward was a cheque for £167,050 and the trophy as well as the prestige of being the GUKPT Grand Final Champion. Foltyn won the event which had a starting field of 184 poker players. Ex-footballer Tony Cascarino was competing in the main event and he managed to reach the final table. Cascarino has had a good GUKPT season having won the main event of the Bolton leg of the tour. Foltyn and Cascarino were joined by Richard Ashby, Jeffrey Duvall, Stuart Nash, Stuart Rutter, Guy Steel, Surinder Sunar and Eirik Svanes of Norway completing the final table line-up. Ashby, Rutter and Sunar were all playing in their second GUKPT Grand Final, final table, however none of these players reached the heads-up final.
The heads-up was between Yorkshireman Foltyn and Jeffrey Duvall from London. It was an epic battle which lasted over three hours of play, with lead changing hands on several occasions. It was an elephant queen on the river which gave Foltyn victory in the final hand.
Foltyn at just 24 years of age has a fine future ahead of him in professional poker. He is a very good online player and although he has made it to the final table of a WSOP event this GUKPT Grand Final win has to be the best of his poker career so far.
Here’s how the final table finished:
Paul Foltyn - £167,050
Jeffrey Duvall - £96,600
Guy Steel - £69,000
Eirik Svanes - £46,900
Stuart Rutter - £35,900
Tony Cascarino - £27,600
Stauart Nash - £22,100
Surinder Sunar £16,550
Richard Ashby - £13,800
The 2008 GUKPT hasn’t finished yet as the Champion of Champions event will conclude the season on 4th December at the G Casino in Luton.
