Online bingo growing from strength to strength
Published on 10 September 2008
Online bingo has had a dramatic rise in the last couple of years as more and more bingo players are going online. Despite all the doom and gloom around at the moment with the credit crunch, talk of recession and people facing higher fuel and food prices, the online bingo industry is likely to be much less affected than other industries and continue its growth.
In 2007 online bingo firms in the UK raked in £650 million from online bingo players and that figure is expected to rise again this year with the continued growth in online bingo.
888Ladies.com which is 888’s online bingo site, was largely attributed for accounting for 888’s big £9 million increase in profits from the first to second quarter of 2008.
This is just one of a host of online bingo websites which are now available to UK players. There are now hundreds of bingo websites available in the UK compared with just four years ago when there were less than twenty.
The UK is the biggest online bingo market but other countries have also seen the female-dominated game catch on with internet bingo expected to be developed in more and more countries as the online bingo craze goes global. Spain is currently the fastest growing online bingo market in Europe.
These sites offer bigger and better promotions with increasing cash jackpots and other prizes.
Television advertising has grown to accommodate this new market with several leading online bingo operators advertising their websites on the box. These include 888Ladies.com’s advert with comedian Vic Reeves and Foxy Bingo’s popular advert featuring the Foxy character. Foxy Bingo also sponsor ITV’s daytime programme The Jeremy Kyle show. Foxy Bingo were rewarded with their advertising campaign by winning “Best Marketing Campaign” at the Bullet Business Awards in June. The firm were also rewarded with the coveted title of “Bingo Operator of the Year”.
So far the biggest reported online bingo win was just over £50,000 won recently by Pamela Amber on the ITV Bingo site. After this win, ITV Bingo together with other associated online bingo sites were offering an amazing million pound jackpot for online bingo players who called a full house in less than 33 calls on selected games. However, nobody managed to win this jackpot as it was up for grabs until 7th September.
The Posh Bingo and Spectra Bingo sites are currently offering players the chance to win a maximum jackpot of £1 million in selected games on their bingo websites.
This is some indication of how far online bingo has grown as massive jackpots are now on offer that compare with those of casino games.
