Odds slashed on this year’s Big Brother being the last

Bookmakers have cut the odds on this year’s Big Brother show being the last one to be staged in the UK.
It follows the news that the Australian Big Brother show won’t be returning to screens Down Under next year. Viewing figures have fallen for this year’s show and the Aussie producers even got ex-Baywatch star Pamela Anderson into the house in a desperate attempt to try to save the show.
This failed to win back enough viewers and Australian channel Network Ten have decided to scrap the reality show from its schedule for next year.
As a result, Ladbrokes have slashed the price on the show being axed in the UK from 16/1 to 8/1*.
Ladbrokes spokesman Nick Weinberg said, “Big Brother’s fall from grace Down Under demonstrates that everything has a shelf life. It suggests that the format is getting a bit tired.”
The concept of a group of people being confined to a house for several weeks while television cameras record their every move seems to be less exciting than it used to be with the British public.
The British show has been running on Channel 4 since 2000 and is now in its ninth series.
Viewing figures for this year’s show are running at an average of 3.3 million viewers which is a fall of 5 percent at the same stage of the 2007 show when an average of 3.6 million people were tuning in.
For those of you who are still watching the UK show or just fancy a gamble on who’s going to win I can tell you the latest odds:
Kathreya from Thailand is the favourite with odds ranging from 26/29* with Sporting Index to 28/13* with WBX.
Black albino Darnell from the USA is second favourite with WBX giving him a price of 19/5* to win the show.
Northerner Luke was early favourite to win the show but is now currently the third favourite to get his hand on the £100,000 winner’s prize. Both Betdaq and WBX are offering 29/5* on Luke to win.
Betdaq are offering 41/5* on Dale and 27/2* on Michael.
Rachel is the sixth favourite with odds of 22/1* being offered by Betfair.
Paddy Power are giving odds of 33/1* on any of the other eight housemates to win.
This week’s housemates up for eviction are Belinda and Rex. Totesports see Belinda as clear favourite to face the boot with odds of 1/6*, whereas Rex is very much an outside bet at 7/2*.
*odds are correct as of time of writing and are, of course, subject to change.
