Odds for the Super League season
Published on 12 February 2009
The 2009 Super League Rugby League season has begun and Leeds Rhinos are the favourites to be champions again come October’s Grand Final.
The Yorkshire club have been champions for the past two years and bookmakers feel they will make it three-in-a-row. Leeds Rhinos are priced at 30/17* with Betfair to achieve this feat. Leeds have already got off to a good start defeating Celtic Crusaders 28-6 in their opening match.
St Helens were runners-up to Leeds in the past two Grand Finals and so they are again seen as second favourites. They are also the last team to win the Super League before Leeds and should prove the strongest opposition to the Rhinos. A few bookmakers including Sportingbet, BlueSquare, 888Sport and Coral have St Helens at 2/1* to take the title.
Leeds and St Helens are well ahead of the other teams in the betting. The next most fancied team is Warrington, who are an 11/1* shot with Bet365.
The Bradford Bulls who have won the Super League on four occasions but not since 2005 are the fourth favourites with bookmakers. The best price for Bradford at the present time is 12/1* with Boylesports and Stan James.
Wigan who were once the kings of English rugby league are in fifth place in the betting. You will get a price of 16/1* with Stan James on Wigan.
Harlequins the only Southern team in the Super League, are priced at 125/1* with BlueSquare, Paddy Power, 888Sport and Coral.
As the Super League includes play-offs and a Grand Final at the end of the season bookmakers are also taking odds on who will be top of the table at the end of the regular season before the play-offs.
In this betting market, Leeds are again favourites. Many bookmakers currently have them at 11/8* including Betfair. St Helens are second favourites at 9/4* with Sportingbet, BlueSquare and 888Sport.
Bradford are then next in the betting at 12/1* with Sky Bet and Stan James. Warrington are then 14/1* with Sky Bet and Wigan are 18/1* with Stan James and Extrabet.
The Celtic Crusaders are favourites to finish bottom of the league with odds of 10/11* with a few sportsbooks including William Hill. Salford are tipped as the next most likely team to finish bottom with a price of 7/2 with Stan James.
In the betting for the Challenge Cup Leeds and St Helens are neck and neck favourites. Sky Bet have both clubs priced at 3/1*.
