New Street Fighter online slots game
Published on 17 April 2008
Online slot players who grew up playing the Street Fighter video games in arcades, home entertainment consoles and computers, will be pleased to know that CryptoLogic will be launching the Street Fighter online video slot this month.
Although the original Street Fighter game was quite popular on its arcade release in 1987, it was dwarfed by the popularity of Street Fighter II in the early nineties. In the original Street Fighter, players fought as the martial arts expert, Ryu. In the sequel, however, players could choose from a number of different street fighters from around the world. Four different versions of Street Fighter II were released; Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super and Super Turbo. The various versions of Street Fighter II are regarded by many as the best beat-em-up games and they spawned many copy-cat games. Street Fighter III was released in the late nineties in three different versions.
The Street Fighter slot coincides with the release of the new Street Fighter IV video game, as well as the re-release of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting and a new film set to hit cinema screens next year about Chun-Li – the popular Street Fighter II character. CryptoLogic are capitalising on the new found interest in the Street Fighter genre.
The slot features 5-reels as well as 25-paylines and allows the player to choose a fighter as featured in Street Fighter II, in the likes of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Sagat and more.
If you match five Claw symbols you win the jackpot of 5,000 times your line bet. The Street Fighter bonus is earned by matching a substitute symbol on reel 2 and the M.Bison symbol on reel 4. In this bonus round your chosen fighter faces a showdown with the Shadowloo dictator.
CryptoLogic’s reputation of developing comic-character slots such as the Marvel series helped clinch the deal for the Street Fighter licence from publisher Capcom.
CryptoLogic’s VP for Marketing and Product Development Justin Thouin said: “Comic book characters that have a story behind them and have [storylines] that can be integrated and woven into slot machines in a gaming experience really do translate well and players love the experience.
“Street Fighter really ignited the fighting game genre. I think the series has sold more than 500,000 coin operated units and 24 million console games worldwide, so this is a massive brand with huge global popularity and I think it’s going to be a phenomenal experience for players.”
