GUKPT season ends with Champion of Champions Event
Published on 11 December 2008
The 2008 BlueSqpoker.com Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) has finished with the Champion of Champions event at the G Casino in Luton. A total of 93 poker players earned their right to compete in this event with their performances throughout the GUKPT season.
This included all of the GUKPT winners from the nine legs of the competition such as ex-footballer Tony Cascarino, World Heads-Up champ Jeff Kimber, Julian Thew and Sam Trickett.
The season finale though was won by Ash Hussain who took the first prize of £20,000. He defeated David Rudling in the heads-up final. Rudling’s runners-up prize was £14,000.
The other players to make it to the final table were Ben Callinan, Paul Foltyn, Marc Goodwin, Essy Johanpour, Paul Newman, Ganesh Rao and Antony Ross.
Paul Foltyn is very much a man in-form at the moment having won the GUKPT Grand Final just a few days earlier, he was the only final table player from the Grand Final to reach the champion of Champions final and his good run rewarded him with a seventh place finish earning an extra £4,000 on top of his £167,050 Grand Final prize.
Marc Goodwin has ended the GUKPT season on top of the GUKPT leaderboard a position he secured by finishing in third place at this Champion of Champions event.
Here is how the final table finished:
Ash Hussain (£14,000)
David Rudling (£14,000)
Marc Goodwin (£10,000)
Antony Ross (£7,500)
Derek (John) Miller (£6,000)
Paul Newman (£5,000)
Paul Foltyn (£4,000)
Essy Johanpour (£3,000)
Ganesh Rao (£1,500)
Ben Callinan (£1,500)
The schedule for next year’s GUKPT has already been announced and there will be increased prize money for the tournaments including the Champion of Champions event.
