Players from the fourth season of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour (EPT) will be honoured at the EPT’s first awards ceremony. It will take place at the Opium Mar in Barcelona on 9th September just before the fifth season of the EPT gets underway with the Barcelona Open.
Awards will be given to players in seven different categories at the glittering awards ceremony. In the next few weeks, the nominees for these awards will be decided and in one of the categories, voting will be open to the general public. In another category EPT accredited poker writers will have the chance to nominate players while the remaining five categories will be decided by a panel of poker experts. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony where they will collect their accolades.
The general public is being given the chance to vote for The People’s Choice Award category. EPT fans can vote for their favourite player from the fourth season of the tour on the EPT Awards Voting website.
The Poker Writers Award will be voted for by poker writers and it will go to the EPT player who the writers most liked writing about, who they most liked interviewing or who they felt stood out in other ways.
Voting for both these categories are now open and will continue until 29th August.
The other five awards which will be decided by four poker experts are; Best Newcomer, Best Overseas Player, Best Performance, Best Pokerstars Qualifier and the most prestigious: Player of the Year.
The four poker experts on the judging panel to decide the nominees and winners of these five awards are: John Caldwell, Victoria Coren, John Duthie and Lee Jones.
John Caldwell is the Editor In Chief of poker information portal, PokerNews. He spends around three months of the year in Las Vegas.
Victoria Coren is a well respected face on the professional poker circuit as well as being a successful writer and television presenter to boot. She won the EPT London event in 2006.
John Duthie is the chairman of the EPT and previously worked as a television director and producer. He has competed in many poker events and made history by becoming the first player to win over $1 million in a televised poker competition.
Lee Jones is another poker player. He is also an author and for five years was poker room manager at PokerStars.com. He played a big role in the growth of the EPT but quit last year to go back to his native USA.
